Aullwood House and Garden

Aullwood House and Garden is a historic site located near Dayton, Ohio. The home was built in the Arts and Crafts style. Its features include a sunroom with a picture window, a built-in desk, and a luxurious sleeping porch.

Marie Aull, who was an avid gardener, worked in the 30-acre garden for almost 25 years. She was very passionate about conservation and nature. After her husband’s death in 1955, she donated the property to the Dayton community.

When John Aull died, his widow asked the National Audubon Society to take care of the land. As a result, the center now includes both a farm and a nature center.

The 200-acre Aullwood Nature Sanctuary features eight miles of walking trails and a 200-acre farm. The property also has a spring-fed pond, prairies, and woods.

Visitors can enjoy a picnic or visit the nearby mountain biking area. There are also lodging and motels at the park. A large, 500-year-old sycamore tree can be seen in the woodlands.

One of the most interesting parts of the Aullwood Garden is its floral displays. Visitors will be amazed at the number of beautiful blooms. The site features the Virginia bluebells, which are in bloom now. In the spring, there are also bluebirds nesting in the prairie meadow.

Audubon Center

Aullwood Audubon Center and Farm is a 200-acre nature sanctuary and farm located in Montgomery County, Ohio. The Aullwood Audubon Center includes a nature center and farm discovery center. There are also miles of trails for hiking.

In 1957, Marie Aull donated 70 acres of land to the National Audubon Society. She wanted to create a place for people to learn about nature and animals. By doing so, she created the first nature center in the Midwest.

Since then, Aullwood has become a model for other nature centers across the country. Its grounds are home to several habitats, including a stream, prairies, and woods. It hosts more than 110,000 visitors each year.

Aullwood’s education center is one of the biggest attractions. It features an auditorium and themed discovery rooms. It also houses live animals, such as pigs, goats, and sheep. Visitors can explore a wildflower trail, play games, and learn about ecology.

Aullwood Audubon Center and Farm offers educational public and school programs for children. Visitors can enjoy special events and activities throughout the year. Children can participate in research and learn about natural history, wildlife, and sustainability.

Five Rivers MetroParks

Aullwood Garden MetroPark, located in Dayton, Ohio, is a nature sanctuary with an extensive garden and woodland hiking trails. This former garden retreat of conservationist Marie Aull is now part of the Five Rivers MetroPark system.

The Aullwood Garden MetroPark features an extensive and unusual floral display in the spring and summer. These flowers are primarily Virginia bluebells, which are at their peak now. Other plant species in the gardens include lilies, roses, and six hundred year old sycamore trees.

Located at 955 Aullwood Road, this garden is open to the public. Visitors can start their journey at the Aullwood Nature Center. It’s a mile long path through a variety of plants, trees, and woods.

After visiting the Aullwood Nature Center, visitors can take a five minute drive to the other major location in the Aullwood Garden. The Arboretum, which is 200 acres, is another place to see nature. There are eight miles of hiking trails.

Aullwood is also listed on the National Historic Places Registry. Marie Aull was a conservationist and environmental activist. She worked on the Aullwood property for many years. After the death of her husband, John, she donated the property to the National Audubon Society.
