Historic farm
The Historical Farm in Carriage Hill MetroPark is a living history museum that recreates farm life in the 1880s. Visitors can tour the historic buildings, take a self-guided tour of the grounds, participate in educational programs, or watch demonstrations of period farming. You can also see livestock and nature trails.
One of the main attractions of the park is the Arnold Homestead. This historic home was built around the turn of the nineteenth century by a Virginia family. It is now fully furnished and restored. To see the inside of the home, you can visit the visitors center, which is just a short walk from the home.
In addition to the historic house, the park is also home to other buildings, such as the blacksmith shop and summer kitchen. The farm staff is dedicated to preserving the history of the property. There are more than 46 family diaries that document farm life in the 19th century.
The farm is home to a variety of livestock, including Merino sheep and barred Plymouth Rock chickens. They also use Percheron draft horses to pull various equipment. For lighter work, the farm uses a mule.
Visitors can also participate in daily historical demonstrations. A variety of heirloom crops are planted on the farm. These varieties provide food for the animals and humans.

Carriage Hill MetroPark is located in Huber Heights, Ohio, a suburb of Dayton. This 900-acre park is home to many scenic wonders including prairies, lake ponds, and a lake. The ADA-accessible boardwalk and fishing pier at Cedar Lake is one of the highlights.
Carriage Hill was once a wooded farmland. Today, it’s transformed into a rich natural habitat. A short hike along the Yellow Trail takes you past several of the park’s most notable natural features. As a testament to its dedication to preserving and enhancing the environment, Carriage Hill MetroPark offers numerous interpretive programs and cultural heritage activities. Visitors can also take in the view from the 124-acre memorial park or participate in horseback riding lessons. Those interested in more adventurous pursuits can try out a number of advanced courses at the nearby Carriage Hill Outdoor Center.
While you’re at it, make sure you check out the Historical Farm, which is located on Shull Road. This historic site has a number of reconstructed buildings as well as some interesting exhibits.

Optimist Club presents 2015 Youth Fishing Derby
The Northridge Optimist Club is no slouch when it comes to community service. The club has funded various charitable initiatives such as a scholarship fund and youth sports programs, to name a few. One of the more interesting and entertaining events hosted by the club is the annual golf tournament. It’s no secret that the area is quite a golfer’s paradise, so the Optimist Club is hardly a stranger to the game. In fact, the club has an enviable record of retaining the top spot on the Optimist golf league table for the past two years in a row.
As the name suggests, the club’s annual golf outing is the main event, but the club does manage to squeeze in a few other notable events throughout the year. Aside from its regulars, the Optimist Club also has a large and growing membership base. These members include members of the community at large as well as some of the top talent in the biz. From a sports standpoint, the club has always been supportive of the Northridge School District. This year is no exception, with the Optimist Club hosting its annual Youth Fishing Derby at the aforementioned Carriage Hill MetroPark in Huber Heights, Ohio on May 9.
